In this holiday season, hundreds of millions of packages are delivered to awaiting customers by the Postal Service and other delivery companies. Unfortunately, such items are also attractive to thieves. Porch poachers, as we call them, take advantage of these valuable deliveries, sometimes even following a delivery truck, to steal a package from a doorstep. Package thefts have been reported all across the country.

That’s why Postal Inspectors across the country are at work to protect your mail. Here’s some important advice during this holiday season. Track your delivery. The Postal Service offers tracking with their packages. If it doesn’t arrive when promised, let us know. Better yet, have someone home to receive the package. If that’s not possible, arrange for an alternate delivery to your place of work, a neighbor or have it held for pick-up. Remember, you can be a target, but you don't have to be a victim!

If you see someone suspicious near a mailbox or see them steal mail, call police immediately, then report it to Postal Inspectors at 877-876-2455.
