Failure to Render

How You Can Help

  1. Purchase merchandise from reputable dealers or establishments.
  2. Obtain a physical address rather than simply a post office box and a telephone number, and call the seller to see if the telephone number is correct and working. Send an e-mail to the seller to make sure the e-mail address is active.
  3. Consider not purchasing from sellers who won’t provide you with this type of information..

Today’s episode is about one of the simplest – and oldest—frauds: Failure to Render. Shopping for goods and services, either through the mail or online, opens up a whole new, expanded world of choices. But it also opens up a new way for scammers to steal money from shoppers. While many Internet promotions are legitimate, innovative con artists also use the Internet to conduct fraudulent schemes.

Some sellers offer descriptions of products they don’t even have in their possession or services they don’t even provide. Don’t get taken. Know who you’re dealing with and what you’re buying. Do your homework on both the seller and the product or service. Doing research on the front end can save you time and money in the long run.
